After Roman Empire fall and the invasion of the Ostrogoths, Byzantine Empire control DALMATIA until the invasion of the Slavic Croats (meaning montain people) in the early 7th century and destroyed Roman towns. The city of RAGUSA (old RAGUSUM) was founded by the survivors of the Roman culture.
Medieval Croats states ruled until 925 when emerge the Kingdom of Croatia with the defeat of Bulgarians and Hungarians. But in 1097 the kingdom was defeated by Hungarians that impose an Union in 1102. PANNONIA linked again to DALMATIA (until 1526)! In 1527 begun the rule by Austrian Habsburg Monarchy until the end of I world war (1918). Republic of Venetia have a control between 1420 and 1797. Otoman Empire since 1493 until 1699. Since 1918 until 1941 (Axis oocupation, Protectorat of Italy until 1943 and then a State undercontrol of Germany) Croatia was a part of Kingdom of Yugoslavia, of the southern Slavs. In 1945 become a Republic of the federation of Yugoslavia until the it colapse by an horrible war. Croatia become independent in 1991 and joined European Union in 2013.
